Step-by-Step Guide to Quality Control in Aluminium and Glass Facade Projects

When it comes to modern high-rise and commercial buildings, aluminium and glass facades are not just about looks – they play a big role in safety, energy efficiency, and long-term performance. That’s why having a proper Quality Control (QC) process in place is non-negotiable. Let’s walk through the steps in a simple way.

Step 1: Incoming Material ChecksEvery quality process starts at the factory gate. Aluminium profiles, glass panels, sealants, and hardware must be inspected for dimensions, surface finish, and test certificates. If the materials are not verified properly, problems will carry forward into installation.

Step 2: Factory Fabrication & Welding QCBefore components leave the factory, welding, fabrication accuracy, and assembly tolerances should be checked. Trial assemblies and mock-ups often reveal issues early, saving costly rework at site.

Step 3: Pre-Shipment & Packaging InspectionProper packaging ensures materials reach site without scratches, breakage, or warping. Labels, protective films, and crating must be reviewed against the checklist.

Step 4: Site Receiving & StorageOnce delivered, site engineers must carry out a Material Inspection Report (MIR). Storage conditions, stacking systems, and weather protection also fall under QC responsibility.

Step 5: Installation QCThis is where site inspection becomes critical. Alignment of mullions, sealant application, torque of fasteners, and water-leak testing ensure the façade performs as designed.

Step 6: Documentation & ReportingNo QC is complete without records. MIRs, WIRs, NCRs, and release notes form the backbone of quality documentation, helping in audits and final handover.
